Let’s dive into the basics. When I was thinking about ideal clothing, I discovered some simple rules that will guide you through dressing decisions. We all are different and cannot fit into the same shape of apparel (even when the sizes are right). There is the rub in the “proportional illusion”!
Look at those three figures below, being defined as:
- Magazine Skinny;
- Next Door Beauty;
- and Curvy Venus.
I want to demonstrate the difference in our perception on a simple piece of cloth such as a T-shirt (more tips and shapes to come). Firstly, you can observe that the same piece of apparel let become apparent shape differences. Skinny shines next to Beauty and Venus.
But why? Let’s compare all 3 figures considering the similar height.
You can see that Skinny’s legs look longer compared to Beauty and more apparently when compared to Venus. Now, we can play around a little bit. You may come upon the idea of higher waist pants for Beauty and Venus, which might partially works for Beauty (when you like the touch of eighties) but definitely not for Venus. We would create only a heavy impression.
I would suggest to change the T-shirt style with a wider collar to balance the overall impression and to optically shorten the central part in favour of legs and neckline. Beauty could wear both styles, it depends if she wants to step out of the crowd. If so, wider collar style with accessories is the best choice (unfortunately for the majority of normal population, skinny would step out of the crowd even in a plain T-shirt).
Finally, let’s get back to the original proportions and here you can find Guru’s final T-shirt style recommendation.
Are there any other interesting outfits with T-shirts for Beauty or Venus? Please share them in comments.
